General

The Slate Digital ML-2A is a small-diaphragm modelling microphone set designed for recording instruments at high sound pressure levels. You get a factory-matched stereo pair, allowing you to record in stereo with a tight and consistent sound straight away. The idea is simple: you capture a clear, neutral foundation and then use mic modelling to select the right ‘classic’ sound for your track. This means you don’t need to invest in an extensive collection of vintage and high-end microphones, yet you still have the vibe and characteristics at your fingertips.

Mic modelling with 36 models

Combined with the award-winning Virtual Microphone System (VMS) plug-in, the ML-2A really comes to life. All 36 mic models are included straight away: from workhorse dynamics to smooth ribbons and classic condenser mics. You can also A/B-test between models straight away, so you can find the best match for your source in a flash. Fancy something of your own? Blend two mic models into a single, unique, precisely tuned sound. And good news for those who can’t make up their minds: you can even adjust the proximity effect after recording.

System requirements and iLok

The system requirements for the VMS plug-in are clear: on macOS, you’ll need at least Catalina 10.15 (Big Sur 11.x or later recommended), and on Windows, Windows 10 or 11. Plug-ins work in AU, VST2, VST3 and AAX (64-bit host), with 4GB of RAM on Intel/AMD or Apple Silicon. Licences are managed via iLok: Complete Access includes two activations and works via iLok Cloud, an iLok 2/3 dongle or Machine ID. Individual licences work via iLok 2/3 or Machine ID.
