General
With a snare drum like this 15-inch Recording Custom RRS1455 by Yamaha, you'll be sure to cut through the mix in any musical genre thanks to the unique tonal characteristics its brass shell provides. It can sound relatively warm and deep, or bright and shrill, almost timbale-like, depending on how you use it. In general, Recording Custom snare drums are excellent value for money, and very popular with professional modern-day drummers. Even drummer god Steve Gadd has a signature model from the Recording Custom series!
Yamaha Recording Custom Brass
This 14-inch snare is made of 1.2mm-thick brass, which gives it amazing sound projection, a broad volume range and warmth that's reminscent of the sound of a maple snare drum. It's 5.5 inches deep and offers excellent resonance thanks to the 45-degree bearing edge. The 2.3 mm Dyna Hoop ensures stable tuning and great resonance as well. All the hardware on this snare is chrome-plated and it comes complete with Remo Ambassador drumheads.

Ik wilde al langer naast mijn esdoorn snare een metalen snare kopen maar bleef maar twijfelen tussen aluminium en brass. Het klinkt allemaal even goed op YouTube maar live is dat dikwijls een heel ander verhaal. Toen ik enkele dagen geleden op de Bax website zag dat ze in Goes enkele Yamaha Recording Custom snares in huis hadden wist ik meteen waar naar toe. Gijs heeft me daar super geholpen... geen moeite teveel... and yes, toen ik de brass 14x5.5 hoorde was ik meteen verkocht... de aluminium versie is ook prima maar die net iets warmere toon van de brass was exact wat ik qua sound in mijn hoofd had. Fantastische afwerking tot in het kleinste detail en vandag tijdens de repetitie ondervonden dat die snare geen demping nodig heeft. Ik speel voornamelijk jazz, fusion en blues en kan deze snare bijzonder aanraden. Opgepast: ze kan ook stevige tikken verdragen zodat ook drummers in hardere genres er een stevige klankdoos aan hebben. Bob Van den Langenbergh - Melsele.
