This means the tweeter is actually integrated into the woofer, so the total sound comes from one central location instead of two. This also prevents phase shifting that can occur in speakers where the woofer and tweeter are separate components.
New features of the Equator D5 2016
The original D5 has been around for some time now. As far as performance is concerned, this 2016 version is virtually the same, with the exception of a few practical updates. The bass port has been redesigned to effectively reduce 'puffing' and distortion in the lower frequencies, for starters. The chance of distortion is further reduced by the tweeter's close placement to the woofer. These features, together with countless other minor improvements, are what make the Equator D5 2016 better than ever before.
Who is it for?
Clearly, the D5 belongs in the studio. With a frequency response of 53 Hz - 20 kHz (+/- 3 dB), it's a remarkable all-rounder, especially with its 5.25-inch woofer. Its modest dimensions make it especially suitable for smaller spaces, like editing vans for example, where there is simply no room for a midfield speaker. Place the D5 monitors up against a wall and use the special switch at the rear to optimise the sound.
