Korg's Kronos X was a versatile device, but the Kronos 61 model 2015 beats it by a long shot. This version is also equipped with 9 independent sound engines, but features newer sounds. The Kronos 61 offers no less than 21 GB of waveforms, as well as an impressive 62 GB of space for downloadable Kronos libraries and your own samples. What's more, it's able to serve as a host for other MIDI controllers, such as drum pads. Thanks to a well-organised, multi-colour touch screen (800 x 600), operating this workstation is a piece of cake. The Kronos 61's comfortable Natural Touch Semi-Weighted Action keyboard makes it easy to play both sultry piano pieces and funky synth parts.
Korg Kronos 61 Model 2015: A Sea of Sounds
Pianos, organs, strings, synthesizers - the Kronos 61 has it all. An SGX-2 piano engine provides you with an exceptionally realistic acoustic grand. Every single detail - string resonance, pedal performance, the opening of the lid - can easily be adjusted. There are special engines for electric pianos and tonewheel organs, and Korg has even enhanced the way in which their own samples are reproduced, by means of an HD-1 PCM sound engine. That means the available PCM samples (which can also be downloaded) are perfectly produced with a minimum chance of aliasing. Additionally, you'll find a number of synthesizers from the Legacy Analog collection.
Perfect for Studio and Stage
With their famous Karma technology, Korg was always at the forefront of workstation development. Redesigned and enhanced, Karma technology is once again featured on the Korg Kronos 61 model 2015, ensuring tight drum patterns, key phrases and backing tracks. You can create your own samples by means of the Open Sampling System, but it's also possible to import them from your computer. The Kronos is perfectly compatible with most popular DAWs, but also features an internal sequencer for 16 MIDI tracks and 16 audio tracks. Finally, no fewer than 12 FX engines can be applied to your sounds, 2 FX additional engines can be configured as send/return, and 2 more FX engines can be used as master effects. That means you have a total of 16 simultaneous effects at your disposal!

Technisch gezien zijn alle toestellen hetzelfde, aangezien de software-update gratis wordt aangeboden bij eerdere versies. Super vind ik de ruime keuze van de verschillende soort klavieren van de Kronos. Dit zorgt ervoor dat men de juiste keuze volgens je eigen wens kan maken en de gepaste Kronos in huis kan halen.
Voor de eerste keer kies ik voor Korg om mijn setup uit te breiden. Voorheen bleef ik bij mijn keuzes telkens plakken bij Roland en Yamaha. Daarom koos ik meteen eentje uit het topsegment online bij Bax zonder deze te gaan testen of beluisteren, zodoende dat hij gewoon bij me thuis staat zonder andere keuzes te gaan maken. Wat mij meteen opviel was de lange opstart-tijd. Eens deze Gold editie standaard meteen de Kronos 3.1.0. versie opgeladen heeft, wordt dit werkpaard op je losgelaten. Het klanken-arsenaal is inderdaad uitgebreid en goed van kwaliteit. Maar laat je ook niet misleiden door het aantal klanken. Er steken enorm veel bewerkte sounds in van originele sounds (deze in mindering gebracht lijkt het al wat minder spectaculair). Maar het stimuleert wel ideeën wat je met je creativiteit kunt aanvatten. Handig bij live-gebruik is de set-list functie, zodoende kun je alle sounds en dergelijke ordentelijk klaarstomen voor je optreden. Dat Korg altijd al sequencing hoog in het vaandel heeft gedragen mag ik zonder mede beamen. Het grote werkgeheugen, uitgebreide mogelijkheden en parameter instellingen zijn ter beschikking tijdens je opname proces. Alhoewel de Kronos beschikt over een groot touchscreen display blijft het gebruik van pc een must bij het verwerken van je songs op je werkplek. Het blijven veel parameters en tracks op een 8 inch scherm om de precisie handelingen vlot te laten verlopen. Aan de andere kant mede door deze schermgrootte, het open sample systeem en de kracht van dit werkpaard kun je alles perfect thuis met pc ineen flansen en kun je de keuze maken op verplaatsing je pc thuis te laten. De Kronos verwerkt je pc-geladen bewerkingen en songs zelfstandig zonder stotteren. Het RH-3-klavier speelt best lekker. Als het gewicht mede door de 88 Weighted Hammer Action-toetsen van het toestel je te hoog ligt om op verplaatsing te gaan, zeur dan niet en kies voor de Korg Kronos LS. Een keuzemogelijkheid dat menig andere merken zelfs niet in hun gamma aanbieden. Prima gedaan van Korg.
