Just like the original but even better, the Korg Wavestate MK2 synthesizer takes everything that made the vintage Korg Wavestation great then piles on the modern perks. The role that the OG Wavestation played in synth history should never be dismissed. In a time when ROM and RAM was insanely expensive (the end of the '80s), and early sample-players came loaded with nowhere near as many samples as they do now, the Wavestation presented a smooth route to satisfying, evolving synth sounds. This unit simply plays samples one after the other, giving the sound a wave-like feel while the user is able to manipulate the details, including the pitch, duration and crossfades. It was this ever-evolving sound that would go on to voice New Age and Ambient electronic music.

The Korg Wavestate MK2: Features

The second-generation Wavestate has been given a full upgrade and expansion. However, if you struggle to understand a Juno, then this probably isn't the right model for you. If you are up for battling a small army of parameters and maybe want even more, then you'll find everything you need in this edition of the Wavestate. The polyphony has been raised to 96 voices and up to 4 gigabytes of samples can now be loaded in - and that's next to the samples that come loaded in as standard. A mass of filters and effects are lined up and waiting alongside a potent modulation matrix. Added altogether, the setup is near-enough limitless.

Who's the Korg Wavestate MK2 For?

While there are plenty of synthesizers out there that all do something slightly different, they all tend to come with a pretty similar spec sheet. With that in mind, the Wavestate MK2 is a pretty unique instrument, especially since it can be directly traced all the way back to the original Wavestation and also shares a lot of its DNA with eye-wateringly expensive synths like the Oasys and Kronos. So, if you're looking for something special that keeps things modern while looking back to the vintage golden age, this is definitely it.
