General
The Novation Summit is a synthesizer with a timbrality of two parts: 16 polyphonic voices and a keyboard. This flagship synth is loaded with three New Oxford oscillators per voice (subtractive, FM and wavetable synthesis) and there's an analogue multi-mode with 12/24dB filter per voice with dual-mode. The specialised keyboard gives you 5 octaves and the 61 semi-weighted keys with polyphonic after-touch. Another salient detail is the built-in effects: chorus, delay, distortion and reverb are available to blow your sound wide open and thanks to the stereo connection and routing options as well as aux connections, you can easily hook this synth up to a live rig or home studio.
Higher education from the Novation Summit and its New Oxford oscillators
The New Oxford oscillators are as smart as you would expect. Generated on the FPGA chip, you get the classic range of waveforms: saw, sine, triangle, block and pulse, enhanced by 43 wavetables. With the oscillators, FM can be used so that, while the unpredictable drift of analogue circuits is there, since they're actually digitally generated, they are stable. The filter however is certainly analogue, with low-pass, band-pass and high-pass and any combination of these three in dual-mode. A great bonus is the included copy of Ableton Live Lite along with access to the Novation Sound Collective.
Intimidating Potential
The Novation Summit is a formidable tweak-box. With a control panel teeming with encoders and faders, the potential is almost intimidating. If you're familiar with previous Novation offerings like the Supernova, then you may not be so afraid of scaling the mountain of options available with this synth. The three oscillators, FM-options, LFOs with slewing, multi-mode filters, effects per side and whatever else you want to throw in, are all pushed through an algorithm via the FPGA chip that adds all the unpredictability and colour of an entirely analogue synthesizer, resulting in nothing short of outstanding sound quality at the other end. This synth is definitely hardware, just a little softer.
Wavetable Editor
The Summit also includes Novation's glittering new Wavetable Editor, offering deep control over the wavetable oscillators. The editor operates via Novation Components and features drawing tools and a Live Edit mode so that oscillator shapes can be literally drawn in by hand and calculated in real-time. Via the audio import function, imported audio can be used as an oscillator waveform to unique and inspiring effect.
In Collaboration with Noisia
The Wavetable Editor also comes with stack of breathtaking sounds that come straight from the NASA library, including waveforms and recordings taken during expeditions in space. Content has also been provided by the production masters, Noisia, offering users a comprehensive preset pack to help guide wavetable exploration. Gain access to the Wavetable Editor via the Novation Components platform whenever the Peak or Summit is hooked up to your computer or laptop via USB.

toegesneden op de synth,maar dat is met de laatste f.w allemaal verholpen.
Resultaat..een vrijwel perfecte synth die jaren lang plezier zal opleveren..ook de editor is heel
goed en bied naast de library waar je eenvoudig individuele sounds kan downloaden of complete
banks ook nog eens een wave shaper waar je je eigen ding mee kan doen.
Kortom..fantastic..na al die jaren dat de synth nu al verkrijgbaar is heeft Novation de f.w geperfectioneerd.
Ben blij dat ik hem gekocht heb..en weet ook zeker dat ik hem nooit meer weg zal doen.

als vlaggenschip van Novation is het een heerlijk klinkende synthesizer. Je kan er heel veel kanten mee uit qua sound. Maar zoals elke synthesizer heeft deze ook wel zijn "eigen" mooie klankpallet.
Dit onder andere dankzij zijn hybride uitwerking.
Naar mijn ondervinding is de galm van de Summit iets dat de Summit typeert t.o.v. andere synthesizers. Het is een prachtig klinkende galm. Het gebruik van een gebergte als afbeelding voor de Summit is op dat vlak heel passend.
De Summit nodigt uit om zelf met klank te spelen. Heeft een duidelijke "signal chain" en alles ligt vrij voor de hand. Als je een beetje dieper duikt, dan vindt u een modulatie matrix, custom wavetables met een handige companion app (alhoewel de wavetables wat anders klinken op de Summit dan een gekende wavetable synthesizer, waarschijnlijk door de FPGA oscillatoren), supersaw simulatie, en vele meer!
De Summit neigt altijd wel wat "koeler" te klinken. (vandaar het gebergte als gedachtegoed) Dit onder andere door de FPGA digitale oscillatoren. Je kan er uiteindelijk wel de typische analoge substractieve synthesizer klanken mee maken (vrij gemakkelijk). Maar voor mij ligt de kwaliteit van de Summit in de kristalheldere frisse klanken.
Een echte uitnodiging om te genieten van geluid!
Het enige actuele minpunt (aangezien dit kan opgelost worden door Novation!):
Er is een probleem met MIDI. Aangezien ik er op speel met zijn eigen klavier. (heeft een heel goed klavier!) Heb ik er geen problemen mee.
Daarnaast heb je kleinigheden zoals bv. de headphone out die op de achterkant zit ipv. de voorkant.
Pluspunten, de Summit is het pluspunt.
Een pracht instrument!

Het apparaat mag dan wat kosten, het kan ook zeker wat! Het is wat mij betreft de perfecte mix tussen analoog en digitaal; wat het mogelijk maakt FM en wavetable geluiden te combineren met klassieke anologe sounds wat het apparaat zeer divers maakt. De Summit straalt kwaliteit uit, de knopjes voelen goed en solide, de buizing is stevig en redelijk zwaar met mooie houten zijpanelen. Het keybed speelt heerlijk (al is de aftertouch iets te zwaar naar mijn mening) en de modulatiewielen voelen ook top aan.
Er zitten vele knoppen op de summit die het mogelijk maken om heel veel functionaliteit zeer direct te bedienen zonder in menu's te duiken, dit maakt het super leuk om nieuwe patches te maken of bestaande patches live te bewerken. Het OLED scherm is simpel maar heel duidelijk en laat goed zien wat je aan het doen bent. Het is een krachtig apparaat met heel veel functionaliteit maar toch voelt het heel vertrouwd en duidelijk aan. Een ander pluspuntje is de opstarttijd, als het een seconde is is het veel :)
Dan het geluid; Dit is kort gezegd geweldig! Met de 16 voices, 2 layers en combinatie van digitale oscillators met analoge filter en FPGA powered effecten haal je er super diverse en prachtige klinkende geluiden uit. Of je nou een herkenbare 80's FM EP patch wil spelen, een klassieke analoge synth qua geluid wil nabootsen of iets experimenteels wil doen: De Summit kan het. De effecten zijn zeer goed en ik ben met name een fan van de Reverb op dit apparaat.
Patches maken is snel gedaan; je kunt al heel veel met alleen het draaien aan de knoppen maar als je er nog meer uit wil halen is de modulatie matrix echt een uitkomst. Wil je wat meer expressie dan kunnen er ook tot 2 pedalen op aangesloten worden en precies zo worden geprogrammeerd zoals je dat zelf wil. De ingebouwde arpegiator werkt erg lekker en heeft goede instellingen. De components web app van Novation is super en maakt het mogelijk om met wat voor computer dan ook direct je patches op te slaan via USB, zowel lokaal als naar de Cloud. Tevens zijn er meer dan duizend patches gratis te downloaden via deze software. Alleen met de meegeleverde patches al kun je weken zoet zijn. De 2 layers zijn tevens los van elkaar bespeelbaar via MIDI op aparte kanalen waardoor je met de Summit eigenlijk gewoon 2 Novation Peaks tot je beschikking hebt, een super goede aanvulling voor elke synth setup dus.
Is het het geld waard is dan de vraag? Ik vind persoonlijk van wel. De Summit heeft zo veel mogelijkheden dat het een groot deel van mijn goedkopere synths overbodig heeft gemaakt; Ik kan simpelweg hetzelfde en beter met de Summit. Ik denk dat dit een apparaat is waar ik nog decenia lang plezier van kan hebben, en echte keeper dus. Ik kan de summit aan iedereen aanraden met een passie voor Synthesizers.

Ik kon niet anders dan vaststellen dat de Summit 'soundwise' naar mijn mening veruit het beste klonk. Van diepzwart tot vrolijk fris roze. Met je ogen dicht zou je soms zweren dat het een vintage analoog is. Tel daarbij de technische specs en je hebt een toptoestel. Voor mijn part de beste synth sinds de Virus TI reeks. Een goede investering voor je centen ! Als het budget vriendelijker moet is de Peak desktop uitvoering een volwaardig 8-stemmig alternatief. Bedankt Bax voor de goede service.
