General

Practising on a ukulele rarely bothers the people you live with. Once you want to play amplified, though, things change. Take an acoustic model on stage or into a studio and you soon want more control over your tone than a hollow soundbox gives you. This Cascha takes a different route, with a solid body in the style of an electric guitar. That makes for a striking appearance, and it gives you a precise, balanced tone as well. The dark bocote top completes the look, and bocote is a tonewood with a character all of its own.

Silent practice or plugged in

The best feature sits on the inside: a piezo pickup with a built-in headphone amplifier. Connect a pair of headphones and you can play as loudly as you like without anyone else hearing a note, which is handy in a hotel room or late at night. The battery is fixed inside the instrument and charges via USB-C, so you never need loose batteries. When you do want to be heard, the jack output takes you to an amplifier or a mixing desk, while the two strap buttons let you attach a strap. In terms of size this is a true concert model, with a scale length of 380 mm and a nut width of 35 mm, so it sits comfortably in your hands. The fluorocarbon strings give a clear tone, and the padded gig bag keeps the uke safe during transport.
