General
This is the black version of the unique Yamaha guitar-ukulele hybrid. The GL1-BL combines the size of a tenor ukulele with a 6-string neck of a classical guitar. This basically makes it a mini guitar ideal for small children. But the Guitalele is also the perfect travel guitar for any guitarist. It even comes with its own gig bag, making it easy to take it with you.
Features of the Yamaha GL1-BL
This matte black Yamaha GL1 Guitalele has a meranti wood body with a spruce top. The 48-millimetre wide neck is made of Nato (mahogany), with an 18-fret rosewood fingerboard. A combination of woods that guarantees a remarkably full and warm sound for its small size.
Tuning of the Guitalele
The GL1-BL has six nylon strings tuned in ADGCEA. A standard ukulele tuning with an added low A and D string. The guitarists among you will also recognise this as a standard guitar tuning with a capo on the fifth fret. This means that any guitarist can get along with the Yamaha GL1-BL Guitalele right away.

I bought these strings for my Cordoba Mini guitar that has a 510mm scale length (just over 20 inches) and tunes to A just like a classical guitar with a capo on the 5th fret (NOTE: IT IS NOT the Mini II that has a longer scale length and tunes to standard E). It was a previously owned one from a music store and came strung with new ball-end full scale classical guitar strings that sounded muddy and dead. These Aquila 96C Guilele/Guitarlele strings are recommended for A-tuned instruments with a shorter scale length of 17 inches (432mm) which is normal for a Guilele, but I thought i would test them anyway. Usually the same strings will feel tighter on a longer scale length than on a shorter scale length instrument and 78mm (3 inches) is quite a difference. I am very pleased with the sound. The strings feel and sound more alive and the mini guitar rings better. It sounds more snappy and a bit more like a guilele than a scaled down classical guitar, and that is what I wanted.
