General

If you want to capture every last detail, then go for the Rode NT5 small-diaphragm condenser microphone. In addition to a focussed cardioid pickup pattern, this pencil mike features a half-inch gold-plated diaphragm plus a JFET preamp for low noise and a high output. Despite its high sensitivity, the NT5 can be used to record loud instruments since it can handle sound pressure levels of up to 143dB, which is just about as loud as a plane taking off. The Rode NT5 comes complete with a clip, a windshield and a pouch.
