A solid starting point for beginners as well as more advanced drummers, the Yamaha DTX6K-X electronic drum kit offers a superb mix of performance and possibilities. Even if you're not sure where to start, you can't go wrong with the quality on display here. The Yamaha DTX6K-X Electronic Drum Kit

The DTX6K-X combines three toms with a snare drum, a kick drum, a hi-hat, a crash and a ride. The KP65 kick pad is a familiar face here and can be combined with any kick pedal, so either a single or a double kick pedal (bear in mind that neither is included). The three TP70 tom pads are made of rubber for a satisfying playing feel, while the XP80 snare drum has a triple-zone design which means that there are three triggers built in for the option to pull out three different sounds, which could be a rim shot, a rim click and a normal snare sound. The 10-inch crash pad is a dual-zone pad and comes with two triggers, just like the hi-hat. When it comes to the cymbal pads, the crash has a choke function so you can mute the cymbal with your hand shortly after striking it while the 13-inch ride is equipped with three triggers where the difference between landing your stick on rim, head and cup can be clearly heard. What's special is that this cymbal pad also detects where exactly you land your stick, so you'll notice that it doesn't sound exactly the same in every spot when you're playing your jazz-ride patterns - which definitely adds to the realism and makes playing this Yamaha e-kit all the more enjoyable. All components are mounted on the included rack, which is not only nice-and-stable but can be folded up as needed.

The Yamaha DTX PRO Drum Module

The command centre of the Yamaha DTX6K-X is the DTX PRO drum module. Loaded with over 400 high-quality samples, kits and presets, this module features samples of some of the best acoustic kits ever built, which were recorded in first-class studios across Europe to ensure true-to-life sound quality. In fact, even the acoustics of the rooms - also known as the ambiance - was factored in, so that's why the module has an Ambience control that allows you to easily adjust the sound of the room. You can also fire up various effects per channel and you have the option to put together your own sound. You can load your own samples from a USB stick, or build a custom kit with the sounds that Yamaha has provided. Finished with a headphone jack for silent practice, the module connects to a computer via USB, so audio/MIDI recording is fully supported. Yamaha even include a free copy of Cubase in case you don't have access to any DAW software yet. You can also record via the module itself and you can easily connect the module to an amplifier or even your phone.
