General

We know Teenage Engineering as a company that adds a certain amount of absurdity to their products. A kind of wacky humour - think Pocket Operators - but that's fun! At least it's unique. And then suddenly you see a product like the Teenage Engineering TX-6, and then the goofiness is done. This product is very hard to classify. It looks like some kind of mixer - and it can indeed mix - but it can do a lot more than that. Well, we've all seen a compact mixer with six side-by-side channels, usually the size of a book. This TX-6 is even smaller than a smartphone! You can hardly imagine that it could be a mixer. But wait, there is more! Much more! And that only makes the story more striking.

Features of the Teenage Engineering TX-6

The TX-6 is also an audio interface (32 bit, 48 kHz) with twelve inputs and MFi support for iOS. Those 12 inputs are, of course, always the left and right halves of the six 3.5 mm stereo inputs, but in interface jargon, that means you have 12. There is a modest synthesiser and sequencer on board. In addition, there are eight effects: reverb, chorus, delay, freeze, tape, filter and distortion. Was that it? No way: you can also use the TX-6 as a DJ mixer, in which case channel 1 acts as a crossfader between stereo channels 5 and 6. You can also use the TX-6 as a wireless controller for BLE devices. By now, the price of the product is not even that crazy, when you add up what you get for it. In any case, the TX-6 comes in a decent casing, and works for about eight hours on a rechargeable battery.
