Masters of the unexpected, Teenage Engineering presents the TP-7: a field recorder like no other. Putting every convention aside when it comes to designing a field recorder, this retro-futuristic model comes closer to an old-school tape recorder, yet it features a built-in microphone, a built-in speaker and three 3.5mm mini-jack ports that can function as both inputs and outputs. When used as inputs, this recorder can capture three stereo tracks at the same time.

The Teenage Engineering TP-7

Besides the one-off design, the specs so far have been pretty standard-issue for a field recorder - until you get to the controls. The large control disc that takes up most of the front panel actually functions like a turntable... meaning that this truly unique field recorder supports vinyl-style scratching. Besides that, it's your scrolling wheel, so you can browse through audio snippets to find what your looking for, while the rocker switch on the side serves as your fast-forward and rewind buttons. The TP-7 is by no means big either. It literally sits in the palm of one hand, and that's even despite the 24-bit, 96kHz recording quality and 128 gigabytes of internal memory. While it's not the most affordable field recorder out there, this Teenage Engineering offering certainly makes a hefty statement.

Excellent service by Bax: speedy expedition and extremely efficient after-sale (retour + refund).
Extremely deceptive experience as far as the "Ferrari of field recorder" was concerned: the Ferrari simply did not start (error message on the display screen). When you want to play on the Veblen Goods playground, you'd better offer a flawless product. Or at least a functioning product.
