General

The sound of a VOX AC30 in pedal form. The colour and the brand name already give it away, of course. But, this pedal is so much more than just another 'clone' of the iconic amp. This pedal can be called revolutionary! This is thanks to Nutube technology; a tube that is more energy-efficient, compact and stable than its traditional counterpart, but still has all the advantages of its bigger brother. It is the driving force behind the Valvenergy series. The Mystic Edge has the following controls: Gain, Volume, Treble, Bass, Bright and Tone Cut. All pots are self-explanatory, but the Tone Cut control is a special one; it controls the entire frequency curve. The Bright switch provides different distortion characteristics.

Full analogue circuit

The Mystic Edge, like all other pedals in the Valvenergy series, features a fully analogue circuit. Here, the standard voltage of 9 volts is increased internally to 15 volts. This results in more volume, more headroom and dynamics. There are also three connection options: 'Standard', 'Preamp' and 'Cab-Sim'. Standard gives you an instrument-level signal that you use to connect the pedal to the amp. Preamp allows you to use the effect-return on your amp so you can use the Mystic Edge as a preamp. This extends your amp with an extra channel, so to speak, or use the pedal as a 'boost'. Cab-sim provides a line-level output signal that allows you to connect the pedal to a mixing console or use it in your DAW.

Switching function and OLED display

The 'channel-switching' function that the Mystic Edge has on board is very handy and simulates the eponymous function of guitar amps. It allows you to link two pedals via a standard (stereo) mini-jack cable and then turn on one pedal while the other is in 'bypass'. So you can easily switch 'channels', just as you would with your amp. You can link up to three pedals together by using a split-Y 3.5 mm cable. To provide you with visual feedback, an OLED screen has been placed showing an oscilloscope. On it, you can see how the controls affect the waveform.
