With the Neural DSP Quad Cortex, demanding guitarists and bassists are given full access to the best possible sound quality via one powerfully complex yet highly efficient and portable unit. The Quad Cortex is run by a total of six processor cores: four SHARC+ cores and two Cortex-A5 cores, which are responsible for handling a diverse array of tasks simultaneously. Na enkele jaren over een Line6 HX effects en een PRS MT15 top te hebben gespeeld, ben ik toch weer teruggegaan naar een modeling amp. De Quad Cortex stelt daarbij niet teleur. De laatste update, met de Dumble is absoluut een aanrader, al zijn ook de andere amps erg interessant - ik merk geen verschil met een analoge amp, afgezien van het feit dat de QC ook op lage volumes overtuigt en dat je niet elke twee jaar nieuwe buizen hoeft te kopen.
Minstens zo fijn: veel presets klinken alsof ze door muzikanten zijn ingesteld, in plaats van door ICT'ers die alle gadgets tegelijk uit de kast willen trekken. Daardoor zijn ze veel bruikbaarder dan wat voorheen bij bijvoorbeeld een Helix, PodPro en GT-10 werd voorgeschoteld. Al met al ben ik nog steeds blij dat ik voor deze unit ben gegaan, het bedieningsgemak en de waanzinnige geluidskwaliteit maakt een hoop goed. Maar als je deze unit voor live gebruik koopt, houdt dan rekening met nog zeker 300-500 euro extra aan spullen (pedalboard, expressiepedaal & voeding)

Ik hoort de dynamiek van m'n spelen stukken beter dan voorheen en de default patches zijn ook behoorlijk goed, sommige al prima te gebruiken als template voor verder tweaken. In de fx loop heb ik m'n Wampler Equator gehangen, een analoog pedaal in een digitale modeler verbetert het geluid altijd een stuk vind ik. En m'n onmisbare Wampler Velvet Fuzz hangt er ook in. Al was het maar omdat ik de meeste digitale fuzz emulaties nooit echt top vind. E.e.a. loopt in m'n Fender Tone Master FR-10, in prima combinatie.
