Boss's LMB-3 gives you complete control over the dynamic range of your bass guitar by means of a limiter and enhancer circuit that was especially designed for electric bass. The limiter makes your bass sound tighter and fuller, while the enhancer increases the clarity and sparkle of the trebles.

Characteristics of the LMB-3

The LMB-3's volume level can easily be set using the Level knob, while Enhance, Ratio and Threshold knobs give you control over other parameters. Enhance determines the effect level - the more you turn it up, the sharper and clearer the sound. The Ratio knob adjusts the compression ratio of the limiter. In other words, it determines to what extent the limiter compresses the sound above the threshold level. At a 1:1 ratio, no compression is applied. At a 2:1 ratio, however, an incoming signal that is 6 dB higher than the threshold level, will be compressed by half. The Threshold knob, meanwhile, sets the level at which the compression kicks in.

Fijn pedaal.

Ook al is het technisch gezien een limiter, met een enhance-functie voor de high-mids en treble, wellicht voor de slappers onder ons, het pedaal kan, mits subtiel ingesteld, ook zeker goed dienst doen als compressor, om je basgeluid nét even dat beetje meer sustain en duidelijkheid te bieden.

De "Enhance" knop laat ik liefst uit, die zorgt boven de "9 uur" eigenlijk alleen maar voor hissende bijgeluiden en knijpt al je lage tonen weg.
Ratio is de mate van compressie, op 10 uur is het hoorbaar, maar subtiel.
Hoe hoger je de knop draait, hoe "artificiëler" het gaat klinken, op maximaal klinkt het behoorlijk bizar, haast synthetisch en onbruikbaar.

Threshold regelt het punt waar de Ratio begint, deze twee knoppen werken samen.
Ikzelf zet de Threshold meestal op 11 uur, zodat je attack nog hoorbaar is, en de compressie pas inzet als je noot al klinkt, dit zorgt, met de Ratio op 10 uur, voor een fraaie sustain.

De Boss CS-3 is wellicht meer geschikt als sustainer, maar dat pedaal vreet toch weer je lage frequenties uit je signaal, dus ik geef de voorkeur aan de LMB-3.

Een eenvoudig te bedienen compressor die doet waarvoor het bedoeld is. Felle pieken worden uit het signaal gehaald en het geheel klinkt vooral net even wat vetter.

Op sommige versterkers kan de enhance functie wat ruis veroorzaken, maar daar is tijdens het spelen niets van te horen. Aanrader!
