General

The Electro Voice PL 37 is a condenser overhead and instrument microphone. It has been specially designed to reproduce the sparkling details of cymbals, hi-hats and percussion instruments in both live and studio situations. The frequency response has a light boost between 1 and 10 kHz, which works to maintain optimal clarity and definition in the sound. This PL 37 is a condenser microphone, which means that it needs to be equipped with phantom power.

Cardioid pattern

The directivity capsule of this PL 37 achieves a good channel separation, which makes for a beautiful stereo image whereby you can localize the different sound sources. These microphones can reach an extremely high sound pressure so you can also use it for amplifying your snare drum. Compared with other snare drum microphones with dynamic capsules, this PL 37 delivers a snare sound with more bite and attack. This is because the condenser capsule reacts much faster than a dynamic one, providing better reproduction of the transients.

Prima microfoon hij doet precies wat hij moet doen. Hij heeft een mooie heldere geluids weergave. Een goede prijs kwaliteits verhouding.

Goede kwaliteit, erg stevig en geluidskwaliteit oke. De mic heeft een hoge SPL, dus geschikt voor drums. Maar de mic heeft in mijn beleving een weinig levendig hoog, een beetje bedrukt. Dat kan allemaal gecorrigeerd worden uiteraard middels goede EQ.

Eerst 1 aangeschaft om te testen maar het werdt al snel duidelijk dat het een goede inverstering was om de bekkens, hyat en snaredrum mee uit te versterken.

Welliswaar geen ervaring met andere overhead microfoons maar ook gezien de prijs volstaat deze prima in onze situatie. Vandaar de aanschaf van een tweede.

Gebruik deze als drum-overheads voor live PA, zo een 30 cm boven het metaal, meter of zo van elkaar licht naar binnen.

- weinig tot geen EQ nodig, goed geluid voor scherpe transients zonder schel te klinken
- prima mic-clamp, die gaat niet lossen maar is toch nog makkelijk te verwijderen (silicone grip)
- EV maakt echt degelijk spul, je hebt geen potlood in je handen dat breekt bij het vallen (je kan er volgens mij een paar keer over rijden voor je er wat aan merkt)

In de studio komen deze zeker ook nog van pas!
