Sabian Artisan 19-inch crash cymbal

After his older brother took over as the head of the Zildjian company in 1981, Robert Zildjian founded a new company named after his three children, Sally, Bill and Andy (SaBiAn). Since then, Sabian has become one of the world's leading cymbal brands and enjoys a great reputation as one of the 'big four' of cymbal manufacturing, along with Zildjian, Paiste and Meinl.

Sabian Artisan series

Cymbals in the Artisan series were originally part of Sabian's Vault line, which consisted of unique and sometimes even experimental cymbals. Eventually the Vault line was disbanded and its cymbals were placed into one of Sabian's other series, depending on which one best suited their sound. The Artisan cymbals, however, were exempt from this rule and became their own series. They aim to combine a dark, vintage sound with modern brilliance, resulting in a line of premium cymbals that simply ooze musicality. It's no wonder that Sabian has classified these cymbals as 'Masterpiece Dark'.

Sabian Artisan 19-inch crash cymbal

First and foremost, this 19-inch Artisan crash cymbal exudes musicality. It has a beautiful dark tone and an even decay that ends with a satisfying shimmer. It speaks very quickly, reacting to even your lightest touch, and instantly delivers a rich, broad sound. That sound is slightly darker and more metallic than that of the 16-inch crash, and ever so slightly trashier. It has a relatively short sustain, as the initial attack quickly transitions into a shimmering wash that gently dies out. This Artisan crash is an extremely smooth sounding cymbal that is excellently suited for jazz and other styles that really allow this cymbals musicality to shine.
