It's time again for a new generation of red keyboards, and then of course it's about Nord. You see them everywhere, and so that stands for proven popularity. So the Clavia Nord Electro 7, there has been speculation about it for some time, but it really had to wait before it was actually released. With 73 keys, you have a bit more room to play, and it is more likely to fit on the back seat of the car. A bit heavier than the 61-key model, of course, but still quite manageable, and a lot less clunky than the old organs this Nord imitates.

Clavia Nord Electro 7 - the highlights

Of course, the sound is always the most important thing again, and there's some news under the sun there! The organ section has now been expanded and has everything included in the Nord Organ 3. The synth section has also been expanded: you now play with samples, virtual analogue and FM. The latter in particular is of course a great and expressive extension for E.Pianos. Effects have been equally expanded, with a spring reverb and two new amp models. In terms of control panel, this Nord another has been polished up a bit and now even has a nice colour screen!

Why a Clavia Nord Electro?

At its core, 'tis a comprehensive stage keyboard, as it is with other Nord keyboards (Nord Piano, Nord Stage). So that means you get all the sounds relevant to a keyboardist in a band: organs, pianos, e-pianos and some synths. You'll also get some non-keyboard sounds with the extensive range of samples. But guitars and the like are, of course, hijacked by a real guitarist. So the main bulk of an Electro is really about the keyboard sounds. Those sounds, unsurprisingly, are top-notch. The big red reputation really didn't just come to Nord. Like previous editions, and like the toppers of other brands, there are a lot of controls, spread over several sections. This is also what you want as a keyboardist: hands-on operation, no fussing with menus, instant results. Not that there is nothing to be found in menus, you can do plenty of editing, but the quick and relevant changes you do directly with your fingertips. The keyboard itself is of the waterfall type, so you can make swipes with your hand without any problems, which is simply less pleasant with angular piano keys.
