Mesh heads consist instead of a piece of mesh that's stretched out with a hoop. The hoop is placed on the shell of an acoustic drum, or on a snare or tom in an electronic drum set (see mesh head electronic drum sets). Replacing regular drumheads on an acoustic drum set with mesh heads makes it possible to practise quietly. You can also turn your acoustic set into a digital drum set by replacing the heads with mesh heads and adding triggers.
