If you want to amplify a kick drum, you'll need a special microphone that can handle the wide dynamic range and full frequency range! The Shure PGA52 is one such microphone! It is the result of an upgrade of the PG52 with a completely new capsule. Moreover, it is a part of the PGA series, the starter line by Shure - which means that it won't break the bank either! This doesn´t mean that you will have to make do with lesser quality, however - you can achieve tight kick sounds with this mic!
Shure PGA 52: low-end
In order to amplify a kick, you need to register looooooow frequencies! The PGA52 can pick up frequencies that are as low as 50 Hz, as its head is designed so that these frequencies are picked just as easy as the easier frequencies. Moreover, it can also be used for floor toms and bass cabinets! Even tubas or (bass) trombones can be amplified perfectly by this microphone.
