General
The Schecter Charles Berthoud CB-5 LH is a left-handed 5-string signature bass guitar, designed in collaboration with bassist Charles Berthoud. He is renowned for his impressive two-handed tapping technique, which allows him to play his bass like a piano. This CB-5 is built for bassists seeking a wide range and a modern playing experience. The body is made of ash and features a flamed maple top. The neck is made of walnut and padauk and features a through-body construction with Ultra Access. Combined with the 35-inch scale length, this provides a stable, tight foundation for both low-end riffs and complex tapping passages.
EMG 40HZ and active electronics
In terms of tone, the CB-5 LH features two EMG 40HZ humbuckers, one in the neck position and one at the bridge. These passive pickups are combined with active electronics in the form of an EMG 3-band B64 EQ. The master volume and blend controls allow you to adjust the overall volume and the balance between the two pickups. The 3-band equaliser then offers additional control over the bass, midrange and treble. This enables you to tailor the tone to a wide range of amplifiers, playing styles and musical genres. The combination of two humbuckers and the active EQ is particularly well-suited to producing a powerful, modern and well-defined basic tone.
35-inch scale length and high-quality hardware
The CB-5 LH features a Thin C neck, 24 jumbo frets and a 45 mm wide nut. The 35-inch scale length provides extra string tension and a tight response, whilst the 16-inch fingerboard radius suits a modern playing style. The Schecter Diamond Custom Bass bridge and Grover Bass 144 Series tuners provide a reliable foundation for tuning and intonation. The bass is finished in See Thru Black Satin with black hardware. It comes fitted with D’Addario Bass Nickel Wound Long Scale NYXL45130 strings (.045–.130). The Schecter SCSGR-6B case is suitable for this bass, but is sold separately.
