2221 Regular Slinky: good idea

Mr Ball noticed in the 1960s that many (beginning) guitarists were having trouble with the best-selling strings at the time. In particular, the G string, which was usually wound back then, was very difficult to press. Ernie therefore thought that a thinner string set would be easier to play. He presented this idea to a major guitar company, but this company didn't see the point. Fortunately, Ernie Ball did manage to convince another string manufacturer, which Ernie then sold in his own shop. Soon this became a huge success, and even The Beach Boys and The Ventures became customers.
