If you are looking for an affordable first drum kit on which to practise the basics at home, definitely consider the Fazley DDK-040. This competitively priced drum kit is fully complete and features mesh heads. A drum kit with mesh heads is pretty special in this price range. Mesh heads have two main advantages over rubber pads. They are less disturbing to housemates or neighbours because the ticking sounds much less loud. In addition, the playing feel is much more realistic and closer to playing on an acoustic drum kit. The drum kit is completely complete, except for a drum stool.

Fazley DDK-040 electronic drum kit

As mentioned, the drum pads are fitted with mesh sheets and have a diameter of 6 inches. This means the drum pads are perhaps a bit on the small side, but this of course makes the drum kit much more compact and takes up less space in the bedroom or attic. What's more, even on an acoustic drum kit, you mainly play in the middle of the drums. So effectively, the playing space is definitely not smaller and the 6-inch pads will actually improve your coordination. The snare pad is a dual zone drum pad and the three cymbal pads are single zone drum pads. The cymbal pads have a 10-inch diameter. The crash and ride have a choke function. And finally, the module: this is one with no fuss. The module is incredibly easy to operate and contains 12 fine-sounding drum sets with a total of 144 different sounds. Of course, you can connect headphones or an amplifier, and you also have access to USB MIDI and an auxiliary input.

This is a substantial bit of kit. Bought for my son to practise his drums. Provides an excellent sound quality of both the drums and also the bluetoothed music to play along to. A little heavier than we expected and somewhat larger than I had pictured but then perhaps I should have read the dimensions more clearly. This will be an excellent bit of kit for all his drumming needs for a long time to come.

"Ik heb de Fazley DB41 drumkruk nu een aantal weken in gebruik en ik ben over het algemeen erg tevreden. Het draaimechanisme werkt soepel en de kruk is gemakkelijk in hoogte te verstellen, wat ideaal is voor verschillende speelposities. Wel heb ik één nadeel ervaren: de schroef waarmee het zittingvlak vastgezet wordt, komt helaas telkens weer los. Dit is jammer, want daardoor moet ik hem regelmatig opnieuw vastdraaien. Al met al een fijne kruk, mits je de schroef goed in de gaten houdt."

Een prima betaalbaar beginnersdrumstel met ook nog eens een goede gratis online beginnerscursus én drumstokken erbij. Het drumstel is in hoogte af te stellen en de pads zijn vrij stil. Daarnaast maken de labels op de kabels en drums het installeren een stuk makkelijker en past het drumstel prima op zolder.

Hoewel begrijpelijk vanwege de lage prijs, is het jammer dat de module geen bluetooth ondersteunt, aangezien moderne smartphones geen aux poort meer hebben. Tip: kijk of je nog ergens een oude telefoon hebt liggen die je ervoor kan gebruiken en bestel er eventueel een telefoonhouder bij.

Verder is de handleiding nogal onduidelijk en miste de helft van de cable management klittenbandjes. Ook was de bijgeleverde vleugelmoer om het drumstel te monteren behoorlijk verstopt en is het moeilijk om grip te krijgen met de vleugelmoer om het te monteren.

Kortom: het drumstel heeft een goede prijs-kwaliteitverhouding, waardoor dat goed van pas kan komen om erachter te komen of je er verder in wil groeien.

De bezorging door DHL was erg teleurstellend. Het pakket werd niet bezorgd in het geselecteerde tijdvak zonder bericht van DHL of Bax wanneer wel, het pakket was beschadigd bij aankomst en om ondertekening werd niet gevraagd.

Eén van de schelpen brak al heel snel af. Had de koptelefoon nog maar 3x gebruikt bij normaal camerawerk. Zeker niet aan te raden. Goedkope plastic troep!
