General
If you want to record a concert, the two or four inputs of a handheld recorder may not be enough. The answer to this problem is the Zoom H6 6-channel handheld recorder. This device is equipped with two microphones (X-Y) and four more XLR/jack inputs. The head with microphones can be removed to reveal two more jack connectors to which you can also mount the included Mid-Side microphone onto this place.
Possibilities
All the provided channels create possibilities. For instance, you can create a stereo recording of a string quartet with the two microphones or you can close-mike a six piece band. In theory, a more regular/large multi-tracker could only record something like this, but the Zoom H6 can not only handel it, it's also practical, compact and handy. The colour display provides you with an overview of functions and level metering. The Zoom H6 records to an SD card for simple uploading to a PC.

I recently purchased a Zoom H6 6-channel handheld recorder from Bax Music. It arrived promptly, but when I opened the box up, the plastic carry case was badly smashed up. I emailed Bax customer service the same day to sort out a replacement. No response. I emailed again three days later, still no response. However, I did receive an automated email from the inviting me to leave feedback on this site, because apparently "We'd love to hear about your experience with Bax Music! ". I hope this helps.

I was a little surprised to see Bax Music shipping the Zoom H6 from the Netherlands but it arrived intact, the manufacturer's packaged item placed in a plain cardboard box but with no additional protection or padding. Fortunately it escaped any knocks. I paid £254 and it's currently down to £242.
Hopefully it will give me many years of service.
