The Yamaha LL16-12 ARE offers a spacious sound, and thanks to its original jumbo body, this 12-string guitar has excellent volume capability to boot! Only high-quality solid wood was used for this guitar, which features an Engelmann spruce top and rosewood sides and back. Compared with sitka spruce, Engelmann offers a brighter, more open sound. The rosewood works to fill in the lows and ensure an overall balanced tone. Naturally, 12 strings demand a lot from a guitar body in order for all of the frequencies to come to life, and Yamaha has definitely succeeded on that front.

Yamaha LL16-12 ARE: neck, headstock and pickup system

Not only does this guitar sound great, but it plays comfortably as well. The five-piece neck of mahogany and rosewood is smoothly integrated into the body, offering extra strength and thus more freedom for the wood to resonate. Ebony was used for the 20-fret fingerboard, which is decorated with mother-of-pearl position markers. In addition to offering a snappier sound, ebony is also very comfortable to play and makes string bending easier. The headstock features twelve lovely gold-plated tuners. Acoustic Resonance Enhancement

Yamaha added a big dose of technology to the development of the LL16-12. By way of Acoustic Resonance Enhancement, a new piece of Engelmann spruce was enhanced to take on the superior sound characteristics of vintage wood. The ARE process involves mixing up a precise cocktail of temperature, air pressure and moisture in order to change the molecular makeup of the wood. This means that the LL16 ARE comes out of the box with the full, rich tone of a vintage guitar, that you'd typically have to wait for years to develop.
