General

In the form of the Dept. 10 Amped 3, Blackstar serve up a high-gain guitar pedal amp loaded with three channels, a built-in boost and a reverb effect. Unlike the Amped 2, the Amped 3 is mainly focussed on overdrive and distortion. The first channel is a dedicated clean channel with a lot of headroom for external effects, while the second channel delivers chunky crunch and Channel 3 piles it on some more. Every channel can be boosted as needed, but you also get the pick of two voicings as well as three different power amp responses per channel (EL34 for classic British sound; EL84 for full-and-compressed sound; and 6L6 for tight-and-dynamic sound).

The Amped 3: At Your Service Wherever Needed

This Dept. 10 Series offering from Blackstar can be deployed as needed, meaning the Amped 3 can be hooked up directly to a passive speaker cabinet with a standard speaker cable or connected directly to the PA system via the balanced XLR output. What's more, recording is supported via USB as well as the XLR DI with CabRig: Blackstar's simulation technology which gives you access to over 250 microphone and speaker simulations. Outfitted with an FX loop, MIDI and two 9V DC power ports for external effects pedals, the Amped 3 can of course also serve as the beating heart of your pedalboard. It's fittingly compact and compatible with universal power supplies.

Update, na 6 a 7 keer repeteren: schakelaar kapot en het volume valt bij vlagen weg. Waardeloos spul voor serieus spelen.

Boven verwachting qua geluid. Nee het is geen buizenversterker, maar het geluid is prettig en goed bruikbaar. Alleen de reverb valt wat tegen zo uit de doos, maar die kan je tweaken met de software. Gekocht omdat ik het sjouwen met zware versterkers zat was. Deze gaat nu lekker mee naar de oefenruimte.

Zeer goede en veelzijdige pedaal: de drie gains zijn higly customisable, je kan presets programmeren of de settings op de unit gebruiken, er is een goede keuze uit amp modellen, die ISF-EQ is plezant en bij de presets kan je de boost instellen per kanaal (bij live mode stel je de boost 1 keer in, pre of post gain. Dat is onmiddellijk voor mij de grootste issue. In plaats van de Reverb een dedicated button te geven, was het volgens mij véél nuttiger en veelzijdiger geweest om én een pre-boost te hebben (voor vettere sounds) en een post (voor solo/volume-boost). IR/Cab Sim is met de software handig en goed, en de unit klinkt overtuigend genoeg om rechtstreeks naar de FOH te gaan. Twee 9V kunnen bedienen vanop de unit is een noodzakelijke maar ook heel handige feature. Passieve cab kunnen poweren is erg cool, maar een feature die ik eigenlijk niet gebruik. In vergelijking met de Two Notes Revolt en Mooer Preamp Live een zeer degelijke en goede unit, maar wat mij betreft nèt niet straf genoeg om mijn A-rig te zijn. Wel correct geprijsd voor wat je ervoor in ruil krijgt.
