General

With the DiMarzio DP158 Evolution Neck pickup, you get an element developed in collaboration with the one and only Steve Vai. This pickup was originally designed for his signature Ibanez Jem guitars and features a so-called dual-resonance configuration, which gives you more overtones than usual with a humbucker. This neck pickup can deliver quite a bit of definition and power, especially when combined with a Les Paul or similar. The pickup is especially sensitive in the low end and allows you to create feedback quite easily. The Evolution pickups tend to be slightly more suitable for experienced guitarists due to their quirky sound character and dynamics. The difference between the neck and bridge pickup of this model is that the bridge pickup is a bit tighter, more aggressive and louder.
