General

The sound of the DiMarzio DP 160BC Norton pickup is more or less exactly between the DiMarzio FRED and the DiMarzio Tone Zone pickups. The Norton was originally designed to increase the tonal range and power of standard humbuckers, without going heavily over the top. The result is harmonic overtones with huge amounts of texture and 'dirt'. In the low-mid and high-mid, this pickup has a fairly solid presence and delivers high output. The result is a pickup that is a bit hotter and 'bigger' than a regular vintage humbucker, but not so much that it goes in the direction of distortion-type humbuckers. This pickup combines well with, for example, Air Classic, PAF 36th Anniversary, PAF Pro, or Air Norton elements.
