The Montery Pop Festival in 1967 was a historic event in music history. At this outdoor festival, many of pop music's future big names had their (American) breakthroughs, such as The Who, Janis Joplin and Ravi Shankar. For the first time, audiences heard the sound of the Stratocaster in the hands of grandmaster Jimi Hendrix. He extracted every possible sound from his guitar and that sound set the standard for Stratocasters. The DiMarzio DP419W Area 67 is based on this sound from the 1960s. Alnico 2

Stratocaster elements from the late 1960s were almost always made with Alnico 5 magnets. The patented magnetic field of the DiMarzio Area models is more focused than 'real' single coils and therefore Alnico 2 magnets can be used. This results in a weaker magnetic field so the string is pulled less towards the element, giving you more sustain. Despite using the Alnico 2 magnet, the Area 67 has a high output. In the neck and middle positions, the pickup gives a full deep tone and in the bridge position a bright, round sound.
