General

The practical Motu Monitor 8 interface from the AVB series focuses on distributing various mixes over multiple floor monitors, in-ear monitor systems and headphones on stage or in the studio. It's equipped with several analogue and digital outputs that are augmented by eight line inputs. You can count on a broad dynamic range and sublime audio quality thanks to the high-quality ESS Sabre32 Ultra converters. The Monitor 8 features a 48-channel digital mixer that's operable via PC, Mac, iOS, Android and Linux as well as any web browser.

Monitor 8: connections

On the front of the Monitor 8, there are six headphone outputs, each with its own volume control. On the rear, this 19-inch device has another six outputs as well as four stereo outputs for in-ear systems, for instance, and six summed mono outputs for things like floor monitors. You'll also find an aux-out and a main-out for connecting studio monitors or PA speakers. What's more, the interface offers space for sixteen ADAT or eight SMUX input signals as well as software audio channels on your computer. For the latter, you can choose between an Ethernet port (Mac OS X Yosemite) or a USB 2.0 input. If you use the Monitor 8 in an AVB network of other Motu devices, you'll have 64 channels at your disposal!

AVB network

The Monitor 8 is part of Motu's practical AVB series, which means it can easily be integrated into a network with other Motu AVB interfaces. This ultra-fast standard makes it possible to connect two devices together directly using a normal network cable. For two to five devices, there's an AVB Switch available, and for more than five devices, you can simply add more switches. Regardless of how long your cables are, you're guaranteed exceptionally low latency. Want to control the device wirelessly? No problem! Connect a standard router or Apple Airport to the Monitor 8 or AVB Switch - no strings attached, literally!
