SOMA Ornament-8 sequencer

Whilst most sequencers work with tracks, a clock and a memory that stores a pattern, the SOMA Ornament-8 does none of these things. What it does have are eight separate cells that generate switching states, control voltage and hold times, which you connect together yourself using the cables supplied. That’s where its nickname, the ‘organic sequencer’, comes from: separate elements that only make sense once they work together. With its four pulse converters and eight Eurorack adaptors, the Ornament-8 works with the Pulsar-23, Lyra-8 (adapter sold separately) or your own Eurorack system.

Complex unpredictability

If you loop your four cells, a repeating pattern emerges. But because no two cells run exactly in sync, that pattern naturally shifts into something else after a while. You determine just how elaborate and unpredictable it becomes with every additional connection you make. You’re not so much building fixed patterns as responding to the clock source. That’s because the Ornament-8 has no internal clock and is therefore really intended for use in a larger setup. In short: the SOMA Ornament-8 is an instrument for those who’ve had enough of rigid user workflows and are looking for something unpredictable.
