General

The Boss GP-10GK Guitar Processor is an affordable instrument modelling processor and multi-effect processor for guitar. Connect your guitar with the included GK pickup to the GP-10, and the processor's full functionality is at your command: instrument modelling, alternative tunings and multi-effects galore! Establish a link to your computer via the GP-10GK's USB port if you want to record directly in your DAW, or if you want to use the processor as a guitar-to-MIDI converter.

Instrument modelling

If you attach the GK pickup that comes with the GP-10GK to your guitar, you're able to use the sounds of numerous acoustic guitars, bass guitars and even analogue synths. Take your pick from a wide range of single-coil or humbucker pickups, steel or nylon strings, a sitar, a fretless bass, a banjo, and many more. These modelled sounds can always be mixed with your guitar's original signal, creating a vast array of different tones. It's also possible to directly access alternative tunings, such as open tunings, 12-string sounds, or the drop tunings you often hear in heavy rock. If you like, you can even store your own user tunings.

Multi-effects

The Guitar Processor's effect section - which can also be used without the GK pickup - offers a large selection of COSM amplifiers and effects that will help you out in the studio as well as live on stage. They have been derived from the popular GT-100. A USB port allows you to record your guitar directly in your favourite DAW - if you use the GK pickup, it's even possible to record each string separately. Finally, the GB-10GK enables you to apply new effects or modelling to your dry signal, and to use your guitar to control software synths.

Ive had this really amazing piece of kit for a few years now and it has been 100% reliable. Before the GP-10, I used multiple guitars on stage, each with different tuning. There was always a delay between songs as I switched and tuned instruments. Now I use just one (American Strat), and switch tuning and tone at the click of a foot switch, or under midi control. The modelling sounds pretty good, and with tweaking can get close enough to my physical guitars. There is no detectable latency so playing feels really natural. To get best results take the time to install, and adjust, the pickup properly (or get a guitar tech to do it.). I started out using the supplied adhesive patches to stick the pickup to the Strat scratch plate. This was ok to start with but became unreliable. Also, having the pickup so close to the strings caused a damping effect reducing sustain. Ultimately I cut a slot in the scratch plate and screwed the pickup onto the guitar body. This allowed me to fine tune pickup height across all strings to maximise level whilst avoiding damping. Perfect.

Hoe overtuigend de emulatie is hangt ook af van combinatie voorversterker/effectenloop/monitor. Je kan kiezen op de GP-10 waar je hem op aansluit maar loont soms de moeite om de minder voor de hand liggende opties ook te proberen.
Dat gezegd hebbende is de emulatie niets minder dan jaw dropping.
Zeer flexibele bediening voor live icm met extra expressie pedaal.
Eens met andere reviewers dat de kabel wel een achilleshiel kan zijn. Nog geen problemen, maar ga er zeker 2 bij bestellen.

De Boss GP-10 is een fantastisch apparaat waarmee je vrijwel elk gitaargeluid kunt oproepen. Het enige nadeel van dit apparaat is de gkc kabel, die het bij mij al snel af liet weten

De ideale oplossing voor de gitaar spelende performer en singer song writer. De gitaar geluiden zijn van prima kwaliteit, alleen de puristen zullen doorhebben dat je niet op een echte gitaar versterker staat te spelen. De gemodelleeerde pickup geluiden en andere effecten komen op mij natuurgetrouw over en zijn ruis arm. Door de mogelijke instellingen werkt de interne pickup prima samen met de gemodelleerde.

De aanwezige noise gates doet hun werk goed, er kan een noise gate achter de gemodelleerde pickup worden geplaatst plus een gate op een andere plek in de keten. De effecten keten kan flexibel worden ingericht.

De GK3 pickup zorgt voor veel flexibiliteit, in alternatieve stemmingen, ook kan per snaar het volume worden ingesteld. In een DAW is de GP10 in totaal met 8 ingangen op te nemen; het geluid met effect, de 6 afzonderlijke snaren plus het MIDI signaal. Met de MIDI ingang zijn software instrumenten te bespelen, zowel monofoon (alle 6 snaren tegelijk) als polyfoon (1 Midi kanaal per snaar).

Alle interne effecten doen recht aan de bekende BOSS kwaliteit.

Nadelen;
- Het is mogelijk om het droge gitaar gitaar geluid op te nemen in je DAW en later via de GP10 de effecten alsnog op te nemen in je DAW. Het instellen van droog opnemen en later met effecten kan echter niet via de editor, maar moet op de GP10 gebeuren. Dit verstoord je workflow.
- BOSS is zeer traag met het updaten van de (overigens sublieme) editor, in geval er nieuwe besturingssysteem versies uitkomen. Gemiddeld duurt het 8 maanden voor de editor volledig werkt met nieuwe Besturingssystem versie. De editor werkt tot die tijd slechts gedeeltelijk, enkele instellingen moeten dan via de GP10 knoppen. Bewerkelijk.

Ik heb de GP10 sinds een week in huis en ben er uitermate tevreden over. De modulatie is prachtig en in combinatie met de Boss Tone Studio zijn er nagenoeg onbeperkte mogelijkheden.

De bouwkwaliteit is goed, hoewel het expressiepedaal naar mijn idee van metaal gemaakt had mogen worden (zoals het geval is bij de Boss RC-300 loopstation). Dit plastic exemplaar zal prima voldoen, voelt niet zwak aan, maar past niet goed bij de rest van het metalen design.

Bij aanschaf heb ik gekozen voor een bundel met een GKC kabel van 5 meter, maar bij het openen van de verpakking zag ik dat er al een GK kabel van 2 meter inbegrepen zat. Dit is voor mij voldoende, dus heb ik de kabel mogen ruilen voor een Boss FS7 pedaal, waarmee ik nu extra opties kan bedienen.

De programmeer mogelijkheden zijn dus talrijk, ook de recording opties zijn van hoge kwaliteit. Er zijn verschillende routing opties mogelijk en de GK3 dient daarnaast ook prima als midi controller. En het geluid op recordings is onovertroffen.

Voor de levering heb ik gekozen voor de opties: Levering op dezelfde dag. En ik ben zeer tevreden over hoe dit is afgehandeld. Het product heb ik rond 12 uur in de ochtend afgerekend en om 8 uur 's avonds stond de courier voor de deur.

Ik kan hier nog wel even mee vooruit en zal hem zeker aanraden.

Heb deze nu een paar dagen in huis. Mooi apparaat, met veel mogelijkheden. Ben nu in staat om met mijn electrische gitaar akoestische geluiden te maken, inspirerend!

Heb ook de Roland GR-55 gehad, de GP-10 mist de synth geluiden, maar de gitaarmodelling is echt beter dan de GR-55. Verder valt op dat de GP-10 echt klein is! Ideaal om mee te nemen.

Het installeren van het GK-element is even goed opletten, maar prima te doen. Positionering lijkt makkelijker/ minder precies dan bij de andere GK-apparaten van Roland/Boss. Was bij mij vlot geregeld. (eerst even vastplakken, uitproberen en dan committen: schroeven dr in en vast zetten dat ding!!)

Editten via het apparaat zelf is vrij simpel, maar vereist wel het indrukken van een hoop scrollknopjes om bij de juiste parameters te komen. Gelukkig zit er een uitstekende editor bij (Windows/Mac via USB).

Levering van Bax-shop was vlot en netjes (zondagbezorging is erg handig). De prijs meer dan uitstekend: GP-10GK set is bij elke andere concurrent 25% duurder.

Tot nog toe dus een tevreden gebruiker.
