The Boss EX-4 Effects Expander adds a serious dose of flexibility to any pedalboard without taking up valuable space. Packed into this compact effects processor are 120 BOSS effects, ranging from overdrive, distortion, and modulation to delay, reverb, and dedicated bass effects. You can run up to four effects simultaneously and even combine multiple instances of the same effect. Thanks to flexible routing options, you can build signal chains in series, parallel, or with wet/dry mixes, giving you total freedom to shape your sound.

The EX-4 provides instant access to a wide selection of effects suited to all musical styles and applications. Alongside iconic BOSS sounds, the unit includes practical utility blocks such as a Foot Volume function, two Noise Suppressors, a Send/Return section, and a Divider/Mixer block. These can be placed anywhere within the signal chain, opening up extra possibilities for building complex setups. An independent global EQ allows you to fine-tune the overall sound to match your instrument, amplifier, or venue.

Intuitive Operation and Fast Tone Creation

Despite its rich feature set, control remains straightforward and direct. The colour display gives a clear overview of the complete effect chain, while dedicated FX buttons provide instant access to individual blocks and settings. With the Gear Suite feature, carefully crafted sounds are available at a simple twist of a dial. You can also save your custom settings to the internal memory, ensuring your favourite presets are always within reach during rehearsals, recording sessions, or gigs.

Stereo Connections, Effects Loop, and MIDI Integration

The Boss EX-4 also offers plenty of freedom when it comes to connectivity. Mono and stereo inputs and outputs make integrating into diverse pedalboards effortless, while the built-in effects loop allows external pedals to be placed almost anywhere in the chain. For extra control, additional footswitches or an expression pedal can be connected. Thanks to TRS MIDI connections, the EX-4 also integrates seamlessly with MIDI pedals, switching systems, and other advanced live or studio rigs.
