General
Not only do German guitar manufacturers Sandberg build great-sounding basses, they're also well-known for their advanced ageing techniques. They are the masters of making instruments look older and have really done a number on this California TM4 Hardcore Aged Reserve. This bass looks like it's been on the road for years, and seen the inside of every dive within 1000 kilometres. The finish under the right arm has been sanded away to expose the solid alder wood, and the metal hardware has been treated to show serious signs of wear and tear.
Sandberg California TM4 Hardcore Aged with modern EQ
Underneath the shabby, aged look of this bass guitar hides a very modern instrument. All the basses in the enhanced California TM series have been given new bodies with an improved playing balance. The pickups are tried-and-tested German Delanos, a J-style single-coil in the neck and a fat Stingray-style humbucker at the bridge. You can turn the latter into a single-coil by means of a mini-switch for a sweet growl. This bass also features an active 2-band equalizer that can provide a cut as well as a boost in both the low and the high. The Sandberg California TM4 Hardcore Aged bass guitar is versatile, easy to transport, and suitable for virtually any style of music. You can also turn off the active EQ by pulling out the volume control.
Zero fret and adjustable bridge saddles
Sandberg provided the California TM4 with some striking features. For starters, it has a zero fret at the string nut that means you'll get the same tone when you play with open as you would with fretted strings. The saddles can be adjusted in three different directions for very precise intonation. The string height is also adjustable so you can determine the distance between the strings. Finally, the resistance between the machine heads is also adjustable, which gives you optimal string nut tension of the A, D and G strings.
