General

Simply put, the BBP34 is a top-quality bass guitar that's at the very pinnacle of Yamaha's BB series. It's the result of over four decades of experience and includes a reinforced neck connection that's been bolted on to the body using six screws. The body is made of alder and maple and the neck is made of three pieces of maple with two pieces of mahogany sandwiched in between. Not only do these wood types ensure an instrument with excellent stability, they also provide a robust sound with enough room for articulation that won't get lost even in the noisiest of mixes.

BBP34: pickups

The overall sound is full and well-balanced and the YGD Custom V7 pickups in PJ configuration add plenty of versatility too. The pickup in the mid position is a split single-coil that offers a familiar growl while the bridge pickup delivers a single-coil sound with slightly more definition. Both pickups have Alnico V magnets and extra polarity to ensure that you won't get any of the annoying hum that's associated with some traditional PJ basses on this BB 700 series model.

Controls and other features

Each pickup has its own volume control giving you different sound possibilities, and you can brighten or darken the tone using the tone potentiometer. The open-gear machine heads on the slimmer neck and the Vintage Plus bridge are lightweight and ensure excellent tuning stability. It's possible to string this bass through the bridge or the body. Stringing it through the body means that the strings run at an angle of 45° adding more tension than you'd normally get on a bass with a 34-inch scale length. Finally, the adjustable saddles make it easy to set this bass up to perfection.
