After the alto saxophone, the tenor saxophone is the most common saxophone. A tenor is tuned in Bb and reads in the G clef. It sounds a none (octave + major second) lower than written. You can recognise the tenor sax by its typical S-shaped gooseneck, moreover, it is larger than the alto sax and smaller than the baritone sax. With a range from Ab2 to E5, it is therefore also between the alto and baritone. Another sax, the upright soprano sax, is tuned exactly one octave higher than the tenor. Tenor saxophones are used in classical music (chamber music), military bands, brass bands, harmonies, big bands and jazz combos, among others.
This instrument is definitely suitable for learning to play your first 'Coltrane licks' on. But you can also use this instrument for chamber music. The tenor sax features a high F# valve, common on most saxophones nowadays. An adjustable thumb rest ensures that the instrument is always comfortable in your hands. The sax is finished with a thin clear lacquer finish. Stagg supplies this instrument including mouthpiece and soft case, and this tenor saxophone is sure to last you for years to come.
