General
With the Streamliner guitars, Gretsch delivers guitars that offer both modern playing comfort and a timeless classic look. Take this particular G2420T hollow-body Streamliner Bigsby, for instance. Its Gold Dust finish gives it a subdued class that guarantees timeless appeal. Of course, it also boasts all those great Gretsch qualities that have made the company so popular. The Gold Dust edition features a licensed Bigsby B60 tremolo and pickups with the characteristic Gretsch Filter'Tron look. Still, this guitar is not just meant for old rockers, as its timeless exterior belies its highly modern qualities, as evidenced by its fixed Adjusto-Matic bridge, high output humbuckers and its neck with a modern C profile, 12" radius and medium jumbo frets.
Timeless look, modern comfort
The G2420T's single-cut body is made entirely of maple, while the neck and fretboard are made of nato and rosewood, respectively. Nato is an Asian wood type that resembles mahogany in its hardness and sound. The tried and tested combination of these wood types forms a solid base for the two high-output Broad'Tron humbuckers to expand upon. As you may have guessed, these pickups provide more output than your average Filter'Tron pickup. While it still retains its traditional Gretsch sound with tight bass and brighter trebles than you'd expect from a humbucker, it can still buck the hum that plagues some single-coil pickups. To help it withstand the high output created by the Broad'Trons, the top is reinforced with parallel bracing.
Gretsch Streamliners: affordable, timeless, modern
If you don't want to spend a fortune on a Gretsch guitar, the Electromatic series used to be your only option. With its excellent price-to-quality ratio, that series brought 'That Great Gretsch Sound' within virtually every guitarist's reach. Enter: the Gretsch Streamliner guitars. These are also very reasonably-priced models, but they set themselves apart by incorporating clever modern design twists. While the classic look and sound of each instrument stays intact, these Streamliners are a little easier to play than classic Gretsches. Even some popular after-market upgrades have been incorporated into their design, such as the G2420T's fixed bridge.
