Despite there being no school like old-school, the original Gretsch hollowbodies from the last century definitely had some room for improvement. Not all guitarists were fans of the vintage radius, for starters, the thin fret wire, and the unstable bridge. If these things have prevented you from investing in a Gretsch in the past, then we highly recommend the Gretsch Streamliner series. This particular model is the G2420T Streamliner in Walnut Stain with Bigsby Licensed B60 vibrato unit. Its look and sound has remained unchanged since the original guitar, but the playing comfort has been significantly improved. The neck now has a comfortable Thin U profile with a 12-inch radius and modern medium jumbo frets. To increase tuning stability, it features a fixed rosewood-based bridge. This hollowbody also has two Gretsch high-output Broad'Tron humbucking pickups that can deliver tight lows, bright trebles, and robust mids.

The G2420T: construction

The G2420 has a body made of maple and a neck made of nato, which sounds most similar to mahogany in tonal characteristics. The maple ensures bright, clear, focused bass tones while the 22-fret rosewood fretboard adds the right amount of warmth to the mix. Two Gretsch high-output Broad'Tron Humbuckers are responsible for the amplified sound, and feedback is effectively prevented thanks to a reinforced top by means of parallel tone bars. On the original models, the bridge was held in place by the tension of the strings; now, it features a rosewood-based Adjusto-matic fixed bridge. That means you can go to town with the Bigsby B6 vibrato unit without worrying about the bridge coming loose.
