Neumann KH 80 DSP Active Studio Monitor (Single Unit)

These have replaced my Adam A7x’s. When one considers the size difference these are exceptional. Of course size does matter with monitor speakers, but as I have recently moved to a new monitoring position which means listening across my recording space these make more sense and are easier to calibrate. The bass response from such tiny speakers is quite incredible and I have comfortably gravitated to making the change from the A7x. Don’t get me wrong, if my listening space was big enough then I would still have the Ax7’s but now would still keep the Neumanns for comparison. Setting the Neumanns up takes a little time but a little patience and using known recorded material through them for reference makes the process pretty painless. Highly recommended

Ik gebruik ze op dit moment in een gewone woonkamer, zonder speciale demping/diffusie, en meestal op een laag volume. Het feit dat ze op laag volume nogsteeds een heel gedetailleerd geluid geven is voor mijn situatie ideaal. Ze kunnen daarentegen ontzettend hard, mocht het nodig zijn. Ik ben zelf nog nooit ook maar in de buurt van de max gekomen.
De automatische stand-by werkt wat onvoorspelbaar, maar eerder niet dan wel. Ik heb al een paar keer gehad dat ze geruime tijd aan staan zonder input, een andere keer gaan ze netjes na een half uur uit, en soms gaat één wel vanzelf uit, en de ander niet. Die keren dat ze wel in stand-by staan geeft het lampje op de voorkant het mooi aan, die wordt dan eerst rood ipv wit, en dooft vervolgens helemaal uit. Vanuit stand-by staan ze ook zo weer aan met een klein beetje input, geen gedoe met muziek keihard zetten o.i.d. Voor mij werkt dit prima, als ik ze uit wil zet ik ze uit.
Het enige minput vind ik de aansluiting van de stroomkabel, die zit niet lekker stevig, zoals ik had verwacht van een product van deze categorie. Hoe hard je hem er ook in duwt, je hebt altijd het gevoel dat hij er zo weer uit valt. Maar goed, in de praktijk heb je daar natuurlijk helemaal geen last van, als hij op z'n plek staat zit je er toch niet meer aan.
Ten slotte kan ik helaas nog niks zeggen over de DSP functies, ik heb geen ethernet kabels in de buurt van m'n set-up, dus heb ze nog niet kunnen instellen. Maar m'n verwachtingen zijn hoog :) Het prachtige geluid kan alleen maar beter worden.

Ik vind ze uitzonderlijk goed ! Het o zo belangrijke middengebied is nog beter dan bij de steengoede KH120’s.
