The Radial USB Pro is a high-resolution stereo digital audio converter (DAC) and DI box. It is specifically designed to flawlessly transfer digital signals to analogue ones using any computer system. Its two balanced XLR audio outputs with volume control send the signal to a microphone preamp, PA system, mixer or active speaker!
Radial USB-Pro Stereo USB Laptop DI: Plug and Play Principle
The Radial USB-Pro DI box is fully plug and play and is automatically added to the list of sound cards in all popular DAWs. You can connect the USB pro via the standard USB-B port. Additionally, the 3.5mm analogue output lets you monitor the digital-to-analogue conversion with a pair of headphones to check the quality of the signal prior to recording. There's also a Mono-Sum switch that can be used to check for phasing. In the unlikely case a hum is present, the two switches on the side allow you to send in the isolation transformers. Naturally, there's a ground-lift switch to stop humming in case of a ground loop.
Solid Design
Like all of Radial's products, the USB Pro was designed to handle a few bumps, so you can carry it from one gig to the next without worrying about breaking it. The unique book-end design protects all the external controls and connectors from falls, bumps or dreary weather. Inside, there's an I-beam construction to protect the circuit board. On the bottom is an anti-slip layer, which offers both physical and electric isolation, giving the USB-Pro a silent operation.

Je ne sais pas ce que vaux les autres matériels de la marques Radial Engineering, mais si je dois faire un choix pour un autre achat, je la privilégierais sans doute.
De mini-jack was gevoelig voor storingen en er kwam regelmatig een aardlus / digitale ruis mee met het signaal.
Om niet langer afhankelijk te zijn van die 3,5mm uitgang en de onboard geluidskaart en potentiële risico's op een aardlus / ruis te minimaliseren, ben ik gaan zoeken naar een USB di.
(ik wilde direct naar 2x XLR gaan, om zo min mogelijk schakels tussen m'n laptop en de mengtafel te hebben, waardoor de 'gewone' geluidskaarten af vielen)
Na wat rondspeuren kon ik er twee vinden, waarvan deze de beste papieren had (iets goedkoper en voorzien van koptelefoon aansluiting)
Toen ik het pakketje binnenkreeg, viel me direct het gewicht op van de Radial USB-Pro Stereo USB Laptop DI. Een stevig staaltje techniek, waar je niet snel een deuk in zult krijgen.
Enig minpuntje wat ik heb kunnen ontdekken is het ontbreken van een USB kabel (voor dat geld.....), maar goed, die zijn overal te verkrijgen (of liggen wel ergens te verstoffen in een kabelbak).
De installatie (Windows 10) was zo gepiept (ging vanzelf).
Direct aangesloten op de koptelefoon en vergeleken met m'n onboard geluidskaart. Hier merkte ik geen (groot) verschil, maar toen ik hem (via 3,5mm) op de aux ingang van m'n VOX amPlug 2 Bass hoofdtelefoon basgitaarversterker aansloot, merkte ik dat de digitale ruis inderdaad verdwenen was. (nog zonder de 2 isolatie schakelaars in te schakelen).
Zodra we weer in de oefenruimte waren, kon ik het verschil echt uitproberen.
Allereerst op de powered mixer aangesloten die we normaal gesproken gebruiken tijdens de oefensessie.
Het aansluiten middels XLR voelde een stuk degelijker dan via de 3,5mm - naar 2x Jack kabel die ik normaal gebruik.
Ook hier kraakhelder, zonder brom, ruis, etc. Tevens klonk het geluid beter. Zeker als het volume iets hoger ging.
De echte proef was spelen via de digitale tafel, waar ze normaal gesproken echt moesten werken om de bijgeluiden er uit te filteren.
Van aardlus was (natuurlijk) geen sprake, maar ook de digitale ruis was geheel verdwenen.
Het geluid was inderdaad breder dan via de geluidskaart en door het ontbreken van een extra DI, had ik mooi weer een schakel minder in de keten.
Kortom, erg tevreden over de Radial USB-Pro Stereo USB Laptop DI. Wel aan de prijs, maar de kwaliteit en zekerheid die hij biedt zijn dat voor mij wel waard!
Nog een kleine opmerking, er zit een waarschuwing op de behuizing dat fantoomvoeding uitgeschakeld moet zijn, maar er wordt niet bij vermeld wat er gebeurt als dat niet zo is (anders dan dat je de isolatie schakelaars dan IN moet schakelen).
Of het schade aan de DI aan kan richten ben ik nog niet achter. (de helpdesk van Radial heeft nog niet geantwoord)
