Oh where are those days. In the 80s, you had several x0x-style drum computers. A few parameters per sound, so a few dials per sound. Not direct devices for the palm of your hand, but again not huge. And now look at the Polyend Drums drum computer! This is a bit different, also in terms of price, although it will somewhat match what vintage drum computers must fetch on the second-hand market. And well, do we still need all those old drum computers when there is a Polyend Drums? With both analogue oscillators and digital oscillators (FM, sample-playback), as well as the two effect processors, you're really in for a treat.

Features of the Polyend Drums

Like its vintage ancestors, the Polyend Drums is above all a fast hands-on device. No menu diving; just press the buttons and turn the knobs and before you know it, that groove is there. Per channel you choose an analogue or digital sound, this number is limited to four analogue and four digital sources, but you are free to decide what you want per channel. A small screen above each channel shows what is happening on that channel. The sequencer goes up to 64 steps, and you basically have all the options you are used to from contemporary sequencers.

Further possibilities

On the left you find a fader and an X- and Y-button, which are interesting. In fact, you can set the position of all channel rotary knobs on the fader, and with one fader movement you potentially change all sounds of all channels. So many things are possible with this, in fact it's a kind of macro control to tweak the drum loop as a whole. Think of making all decays shorter or longer, or the intensity of your FX sends. Is this the best x0x at the moment? Just might be! It's a rib out of your pocket for a while, but for the specific target audience, it's worth the investment.
