Electro-Voice RE 320 Dynamic Vocal and Instrument Microphone

The Electro Voice RE 320 is a dynamic vocal and instrument microphone that was specifically designed for sound amplification and recording applications that require extremely low noise. Because the humbucking capsule is mounted in foam, handling noise doesn't stand a chance. The RE 320 delivers a super-predictable tonal and transient response, making it suited for amplifying a broad scale of instruments and vocals. With the RE 320, you can expect detailed, organic, dynamic sound.

Variable D

Variable D is a technique developed by Electro Voice for eliminating the proximity effect, which is what occurs when directional microphones over-emphasize the low frequencies when the sound source gets closer. The danger of this effect is that the lows become muddied and incomprehensible. You don't have to worry about that though, with the RE 320. It also has a frequency response that is the same up to 180 degrees off-axis, resulting in a continuously stable, linear reproduction of the sound source, even if the source moves around the microphone. This makes the Electro Voice RE 320 very well suited for picking up the details of amplified and acoustic instruments, as well as the human voice.

Two Frequency Response Curves

The RE 320 has a switch whereby you can choose between two different frequency response curves. The first is intended for amplifying a bass drum. It has a frequency dip and boost in just the right place, so you can use this microphone as an instant bass drum mic. If you place the microphone correctly, you'll have to do little to no tone correction. The second available curve is flatter and suited for vocals and most other instruments.
