The IK Multimedia T-RackS Precision Comp/Limiter is based on an old Neve machine. And that betrays right away that this is a tasty vintage simulation that drips with character. The compressor deals with excessively loud peaks in your audio, with adjustable speed and amount (the ratio), while the limiter is basically a compressor with an infinite ratio. It's a wonderful method to add some character to your track, something the old hardware did and does as well, of course, but at a price that goes through the ceiling, not even counting the scarcity and age deficiencies. Then such a virtual version of the Neve is a lot more reliable and easier to afford.
