Fazley Outlaw Series Sheriff Plus HH Brown Electric Guitar with Gig Bag
TLDR; Worth it just for the neck. Anyone new to guitar playing looking for bargain quality instrument should give this one consideration. Even if you aren't and looking for spare give this a shot.
When I saw an HH-strat with roasted maple neck for this price I couldn't let the opportunity go. On arrival the guitar was double-boxed and inside the gig bag. Strings were paper-wrapped. Overall well-packaged.
First impressions, they have focused on a decent neck. If the neck is good then most other parts are relatively easy to upgrade if not to your liking. But it's smooth, a good C-shape not too chunky. Frets are classic Strat style and smaller than I've seen in a long time but comfortable to play. Fret ends have been filed! They were not polished however and felt a little gritty. Oh, and a GraphTech nut. Yes, you read that correctly.
Setup required lowering the action. The neck might have a slight bow, but I'm leaving it to settle before seeing if I need to do any adjustment. Intonation was great out of the box.
Knobs and switches, smooth turning volume and tone, solid feeling 3-position switch.
Hardware is adequate. The tuners and bridge do the job. I didn't have any issues with the screws when I was adjusting the action. Tuners don't feel sloppy.
Body. I bought the brown stain version. Together with the dark neck and cream pickups gives the whole thing a sepia, almost cowboy era look. I like it. You can feel the grain of the wood too. It is not heavy and feels comfortable and balanced.
Sounds excellent. The pickups sound strong and lively. I have a set of name-brand pickups I'll be putting in, but TBH if I wasn't planning on it I'd leave these in. They put the stock pickups of some bigger name brands to shame, they are that good.
+ The neck. Roasted maple, low-profile classic Strat-style frets and filed edges. GraphTech nut. When was the last time I had a new guitar with no sharp fret ends? Excellent job.
+ Pickups. They sound bright, lively and powerful. Maybe a lacking a little on the bottom end compared to name-brand but otherwise very impressive.
+ You get a gig bag!
- The tremelo is passable at this price point but not great. Tuning stayed fairly stable, but don't do any acrobatics with it.
- The supplied strings feel old, but it's generally good advice to put a fresh set on anyway, so this is minor issue.
Overall this is a great value instrument for the price. This could quickly become one of my favourites in my collection. Recommended.
