With the DiMarzio DP186 The Cruiser Neck, you get a humbucker in single coil format where you get all the pluses, but where the minuses have been eliminated. So you don't have 60Hz hum, dropouts on different strings or a magnet that shortens sustain. As pluses, you get a pickup where the harmonic overtones are exactly where you expect them, with an open and characterful midrange. With wound strings, this pickup gives just a slightly thicker sound than a traditional single coil, which works very effectively with open chords, because there is such a clear difference between the high and low strings. The lower magnetic pull also allows this pickup to be placed closer to the strings.
