The Mangabey tube condenser microphone from Monkey Audio is as astounding in practice as it is on paper. This mic provides nine possible pickup patterns for an insanely affordable price. Fitted with a hand-selected 12AX7 tube, the Mangabey manages to capture the kind of rich and unbelievably warm sound needed for recording vocals and acoustic instruments and helpfully comes including an external power supply, shock mount, 7-pin cable, and a protective bag.

Ik kan bovenstaande review beamen. Het is een prachtige microfoon waarvan je werkelijk goed kunt horen dat het een buizenmicrofoon is, maar je moet wel genoegen nemen met een kleine ruisvloer. Die valt in een normaal gebruik volledig weg tegen een muziekje o.i.d. maar als je solo in gesprek bent op zoom of zo dan is de ruis redelijk storend. Met mijn rodecaster kan ik behoorlijk goed de gate gebruiken om een en ander goed buitenboord te houden, maar toch begin ik nu te twijfelen of ik niet toch een 'moderne' microfoon ga gebruiken, want ruis blijft ruis. Niet leuk

Ik gebruik deze Monkey Banana Mangabey een Mid-Side opstelling met een Røde M3. De Røde klinkt echt kraakhelder! Je hoort daardoor dat de Mangabey een lichte ruis heeft. Een voordeel is wel dat je deze microfoon verschillende karakteristieken kan geven (rondom, cardioide, figure -8) en dat hij geen phantom nodig heeft, vanwege een eigen voeding.
Kortom, ik ben redelijk blij met deze figure-8 .
Ik weet nog niet of ik hem hou, door het ruisniveau.
Ik weet helaas nog geen alternatief te vinden, die géén phantom power nodig heeft.
