General

The Neumann TLM 103 is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone that you will find in many a studio. This is because the microphone is extremely versatile and has a great sound. Its capsule is derived from the U 87, has a cardioid recording pattern and can handle a sound pressure of up to 138 dB. Every detail is beautifully recorded, from whisper-soft voices to loud guitars and percussion. This Neumann TLM 103 Studio Set includes a high-quality EA1 shockmount in addition to the large-diaphragm condenser microphone. Both have an attractive nickel finish.

The Neumann TLM 103 microphone

The capsule of the Neumann has a fairly flat frequency response that runs from 20 to 20,000 Hertz. From 5 kHz onwards, it gets a slight boost, so recordings will cut through your mix perfectly and vocals are extremely intelligible. However, the highs remain nicely quiet unlike many imitations. The capsule has a large head grill to suppress construction noise. In addition, a pop screen integrated into the grille serves to suppress any pop and wind noise during vocal and speech recordings.

The Neumann EA1 shockmount

The TLM 103 Studio set comes with an EA1 shockmount. This allows the TLM 103 to hang freely from the stand. As a result, unwanted background noise due to vibrations is not recorded and you enjoy a clean recording.

Really happy with this mic. I bought it as a mic for life - for an amateur musician it is expensive but the internet is pretty much unanimous that for that money you're not going to find a more dependable, versatile mic. It's stood the test of a couple of decades of use and is still raved about by a wide range of top musicians and producers. I upgraded from the Rode NT1a to this and the sense of clarity is great. It feels good singing into something that sounds like this and if you feel good you'll make your best recordings.

If you want that U87 sound but don't need different polar patterns, pad or LF cut then, in my opinion, this is the mic to get.
It's a Neumann so obviously it sounds great and is built like a tank. If you're a wealthy producer who can afford lots of microphones and can pick and choose depending on the sound of your performer's voice then, fine, there are lots of great mics out there. If, like me, you can only afford one really good mic, this does the job very, very well.

Have been using these for a week or two now and am very pleased. I wanted to be able to play guitar without disturbing the rest of the household, but still be hearing roughly the same guitar tone I get from my amp speaker. These headphone do a great job at a reasonable price, they are comfortable for extended practice and appear well made. Bax also did a great job, getting them to me quickly and well packaged.

Nice clean sound. Not too fussy and ideal for my domestic use environment when used for listening to various genres.

Nice and light too with a good fit. So good in fact, that as I suspect these will get scarce at some stage, I may even buy a spare pair. I have several pairs of headphones and all are very individual but these seem to combine the qualities of them all to give me just the level of detail I like but without being overbearing in any particular frequency range.

Product is great. Different from your normal "recreational" headphones in that it portrays the true audio signal and doesn't make any frequency compensation such as boosting the bass, like my previous headphones. They run loud from a very low volume and pick up ridiculous levels of background detail. Bought primarily for music production and am not disappointed.

Afhankelijk van wat je luistert is er zeer goed gedefinieerd geluidsbeeld of wordt het te schel.
Basweergave is bijzonder goed (zelfs in vergelijk met mijn HD650).
Muziek met relatief weinig mid en hoog krijgt duidelijk meer definitie. Ik gebruik hem dus voor bepaalde opnames en muziek waar het geluid bij past.
In 1e instantie gekocht voor electronische Roland drums maar daar vind ik hem te schel voor, te veel hoog.
