General

This special microphone has a rich history! The Neumann U47 FET was initially designed as a replacement for the U47 Tube, and it became an instant success! It has a cardioid pickup pattern and is mainly used as a microphone for vocals. However, kick drums will also sound great through this microphone. Still, this microphone's claim to fame is that it was used for recordings of world-famous vocalists like Frank Sinatra - without this microphone the pop music of today would have sounded very different! Even though production of this microphone was halted in 1986, a limited edition is produced this year! Don't miss this opportunity!

Neumann U47 FET: a timeless classic

The clear proximity effect of this mic makes it perfect for vocals. It means that when you sing closely into the microphone, low tones become more clearly accentuated! This is precisely why the microphone is also often used for kick drums or bass cabinets. It has quite a flat frequency response with a peak around 7-8 kHz, so that the vocals gain against clarity.

Overview

The Neumann U47 FET features a K47 capsule that's made with 6µm Mylar, and its diaphragm has a diameter of 34 mm - it's rightfully a large-diaphragm mic! A BV8 output transformer is also provided, but it has different windings than the U67. As the capsule is suspended in a shockmount, mechanical ambient noise is reduced effectively. Contrary to its predecessor - the U47 Tube - the U47 FET doesn't require and external power supply, it just operates on 48V phantom power.
