You might have seen one of those big SSL consoles before – one of the old-school ones from back in the day. A real industry standard – naturally, you’d want one of those too. But then you suddenly see the price of a console like that, and you quickly end up thinking, ‘Ah, never mind’. Why is a console like that so expensive, anyway? Well, the quality is simply excellent, and it offers a wide range of possibilities. Take this Solid State Logic Revival 4000 channel strip, for example, and bear the price in mind. And then, well, multiply that by 48, for a 48-channel console. That’s how it works. Do you need them all? Perhaps not so much these days; we’re shifting quite a bit towards in-the-box production anyway. A single channel strip might simply be enough to add a bit of character before the signal enters your audio interface. And that’s when you’ll be glad you’ve managed to get at least one of these strips into your studio. Because: it’s an SSL, and it really is a brilliant channel strip!
