If you're forced to spend a lot of time on the road, a little keyboard and your laptop are going to be your best travel-production buddies. While it's a little larger than most portable USB/MIDI keyboards, the Arturia KeyStep 37 makes room for three octaves across 37 smaller but smooth playing keys. To connect to the rest of your gear, a USB-MIDI, DIN-MIDI, and CV/Gate port has been fitted, so as well as your laptop, you can even do fun stuff like play along with your Eurorack system. Of course, since this is an Arturia conception, you also get a nice bunch of controllers for steering plug-ins.

The Arturia KeyStep 37: A Box of Ideas

The most essential features of this keyboard are the arpeggiator and sequencer and the ability to note down little melodies and other nuggets of gold while in a DAW while on location. The KeyStep, therefore, has been designed as a kind of idea-machine, and that's exactly why you would add this potent tool to your bag. Just in case you don't have a DAW, Arturia have been kind enough to include a copy of Ableton Live Lite, which, combined with a laptop, gives you a complete mobile studio.
